This is timely as my kids are back at school, and I'm always asking the difficult questions of their teachers, much to my wife's embarrassment.
But my take is we're trusting people we don't know to have our kid's best interests in mind. And we need to get to know them. They generally appreciate having to think about their goals for the year. In some cases, they have had them stated on the wall already. Amazing!
In schools today, children are introduced to the concept of goals, planning for the future, and how and why they must set goals for themselves. They are being asked to think about what they want to do in the future. In other words, they are asked to have a sense of direction.
The mind is a goal-seeking mechanism that demands fulfilment.
Goals are meaningless without purpose and a sense of direction. Make sure you are heading in the direction you want to go, not where someone else wants you to go.
It's so easy to be distracted by other's opinions of where you should be heading. To help you move in the right direction, ask yourself what do you want to accomplish and, finally, what kind of person would you like to become?
Think BIG and magnify your thought patterns.
Remember, when you think BIG and give yourself licence to write down all the crazy huge goals, it allows your true goals to come through. Don't hold back in the first round.
Once you have focused on some worthwhile goals, start by putting a time limit on them and use your goals to help you grow along the way. Once you have decided what you want and where you want to go, make sure every step is in that direction.
To help you stay on the path, have this in mind; I will give great thought to where I want to go in life and what I want to do. I will ask myself – 'does this action take me closer to my goals'.
