Today's minimotivator #15-2010: Poker and chips

Someone once said, "The guy who invented poker was bright, but the guy who invented the chip was a genius."

How true is this quote when you look around at a lot of the richest people in the world. They didn't invent something new, they invented something that went with something new.

What could you invent or create that could be what chips are to poker?

Get your thinking cap on. It could make you rich.

Today's minimotivator #12-2010: Success and decisions

"To be successful, YOU have to decide what to do next."

Do you make your own decisions about what to do next? Disregarding the "yes" that popped into your head take a minute to think about your day so far. Did you decide to come into work or did you have to. Did you make the decision to eat cereal for breakfast or was that all that was in the cupboard.

When you look closely at the decisions you made today you will see some of them were made by either someone else or outside influences.

What if you made the decision to come to work. When you get up in the morning you consciously think to yourself and maybe say out loud, "I make the decision to go to work today!" Would that make it easier to go to work? I think it would because you are in control of the decision.

Try it this afternoon when you decide what route to drive home or what task to do next. Not only will it make you smile it will make you feel happier because you made the decision.

P.S. Hat tip to Seth Godin for making me thing about this.

Today's minimotivator #6-2010: The price of success

Frank Lloyd Wright said, "I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion to the things you want to see happen."

There is always a price to pay for the success of any enterprise but it needn't be your life, your family or your health.

Dedication, hard work and devotion can be done in the hours between seeing your friends and family. Make time for them or you will be sharing your success with a lonely glass of beer at your desk.

Nothing is a 'quick fix'.

Everywhere I look there is a quick fix for something. The latest to hit the headlines over the weekend is using Lipo Sculpture to get rid of unwanted fat to help define your abs. Great. So no more gym for me.

Except of course there is a catch, if you don't keep going to the gym or eating well you will have the fat back on within three months. Bum, $5,000 down the tubes.

A quick fix will never work in the long term. History has proven time and time again that if you take your time, stay focused, and build upon what you have, you will keep the gains you have worked hard for. Slow and steady really does win the race.

If you want to get rich, do something everyday that helps you get rich. If you want to be successful, make the calls or have the meetings, that will help you be successful - everyday.

The idea is to do something everyday that helps you achieve your big goals and that you do it first before other stuff gets in the way. Doing it first means less stress because you don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day.

It's time to stop looking for quick fixes and think longer term. This is hard for me too but, get the important things done in the morning and hitting your goals will be easy.

Today's minimotivator #202-2009

Sarah Brown said, "The only thing that ever sat its way to success was a hen."

Brilliant quote. One must work to be successful. But think about this: if you are doing something you are passionate about the hours will never seem like work.

Todays minimotivator fresh from my desk

"Success is self inflicted"

I think this is a great quote. We inflict so much upon ourselves and others, why not success.

Have a great afternoon.

Gary Vaynerchuk at FOWA 09

Loved this keynote by Gary Vaynerchuk. Didn't have a clue who he was until a few hours ago and I'm now following him on Twitter, bookmarked his site and watched a few of his vids.

Inspirational stuff for me because people ask me how I get the time to write everyday, or why I haven't missed a Monday in 6 years. It's because I freak'n love it - and they just don't get it. They aren't following their passion.

Best stuff about following your passion and understanding yourself I have heard + the hussle. Get out there and do it. No one is going to kick your arse if you get lazy and that sucks. I am accountable to myself and a few important people because I want to succeed and have BIG dreams and need a boot up the butt everyso often.

This is another one of my rants I know but you will understand when you watch the video.

WARNING: Gary swears - a lot sometimes. If you're watching at work, or the kids or Nana are around, wear headphones.

Bruce Feirstein said, "The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success."

How to be good at anything. Being good starts by;

1. Having a keen interest in something, getting involved and learning everything you can so that you gain ...
2 Skills that allow you to get better, get even more involved and grow your love of what you are doing.

Have a great afternoon.

Todays BOOST to survive the day

Arthur Buddhold said, "Follow your passion, and success will follow you."

I am very passionate about what I do to the point of sometimes thinking weekends get in the way of my work. Not that great for everyone else in my life.

As I'm writing this today I am reminded that Arthur's quote is very true. Success does come if you follow your passion.

Are you following your passion? It makes it so much easier to be at work if you do.

YourMondayMotivator - What is Success?

What is success? It is a toy balloon among children armed with pins.
Gene Fowler

Good morning,

Some Succeed, Others Fail.... Why?

This has been a question asked since we became dissatisfied with caves and tried to find ways to make life more comfortable.

Here are some examples of a successful persons traits that might help answer the question;

* The successful person thinks before they speak

* The successful person knows precisely what they desire and plan for it

* The successful person budgets time, income and expenditures and lives within their means

* The successful person takes a keen interest in people, cultivating friendships

* The successful person keeps their mind and outlook on life positive at all times

* The successful person knows their success depends on the quality and quantity of service they render

The successful person is where they are because of the mental attitude they have towards themselves and others. Over the next few weeks make the time to read books that will stimulate and motivate you. And when you start back in the New Year you will be able to hit the ground running and make 2005 a truely prosperous and successful year.

To your success.
