YourMondayMotivator: Screw this!

What do you you do when one of the worst things that could happen to your business or you happens?

When you can't get hold of anyone to fix it and you're basically at a standstill?

When you just feel like throwing your hands in the air and saying, "Screw this!", then throwing in the towel.

What do you do? What do you do?

I'm repeating myself because I really want you to think about this. It's a measure of your character.

I look at it like this. I'm one step away from the summit of a mountain, the wind is howling, I'm being blinded by the rain, I've run out of food and I'm starting to slid backwards. But I know one more step will take me to the summit and over the top to a gentle downhill run where a nice warm meal and a hot drink are waiting.

What do I do? I fight with every ounce of energy I have to take that step over the top because even if I stumble over the top I can roll down the slope on the other side.

Next time you feel like this take your hand off the towel and take the step. The hot drink and warm meal will be worth it.

Today's minimotivator #10-2010: Moving mountains

William Faulkner said, "The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones."

Have you ever tried to move a mountain? I have. It wasn't an actual mountain but I definitely bit off more than I could chew and had to stand back, figure out where to lift first and then start carrying away the smaller stones.

If you look at all BIG things like that and start with the small things first. Pretty soon the mountain becomes a hill and then a mound and then it's gone. Try it today.

Todays minimotivator #114-2009

Someone once said, "When in doubt, just take the next small step.

You might say that is pretty logical and dismiss it. However, how many people do take the next small step? Because I know that sometimes that next small step can seem like it's over a gigantic chasm and it's not small at all. But if you make that small step something totally achievable it will be small but start you on the track to great things.

Long weekends and Easter eggs

Another long weekend and we are at the beach overindulging on Easter eggs and enjoying a few extra days off. This morning the place is especially busy as everyone is looking at a friends wedding pics while I figure out what to write and time is running out.

Few things against me today; slow internet, I'm not on my laptop and the bach is crowded making it hard to think.

I have typed things out, deleted, typed and deleted as I attempt to get my thoughts down. It reminds me of a quote by Josh Billings, "Consider the postage stamp: its usefulness consists in the ability to stick to one thing till it gets there."

So today I have been a postage stamp, stuck myself in a corner and kept writing until something made sense. Perserverance is an important character trait to me and when I get to the end of a project the feeling of accomplishment pushes me to do more.

Have a terrific week and when your surroundings don't quite allow you to do what you think is your best work, perservere because you never know what is going to come from sticking at it.

Smarts + Persistence = Getting What you want

A small boy is sent to bed by his father.

Five minutes later.....'Da-ad....'
'What?'
'I'm thirsty. Can you bring a drink of water?'
'No, You had your chance. Lights out.'
Five minutes later: 'Da-aaaad.....'
'WHAT?'
'I'm THIRSTY. Can I have a drink of water??'
' I told you NO! If you ask again, I'll have to smack you!!'
Five minutes later......'Daaaa-aaaad.....'
'WHAT!'
'When you come in to smack me, can you bring a drink of water?'
