Today's minimotivator #31-2010: Dream sticks

Dr SunWolf said, "Give crayons. Adults are disturbingly impoverished of these magical dream sticks."

What a great name for crayons, dream sticks. Give some today, or buy some yourself, grab huge pieces of paper and scrawl.

Create, scribble and laugh. What joy that will be and who knows the result might be good enough for you to frame for yourself.

Today's minimotivator #16-2010: What's over your shoulder?

Eileen Elias Freeman said, "When babies look beyond you and giggle, maybe they're seeing angels."

What do they see over your shoulder when they giggle? Are they just giggling because they are safe in your arms or are they seeing something? Either way they do it a lot and they are very happy.

As adults we don't giggle that much and we can be a dour lot. Next time you're out at a cafe or in a mall check people out. They don't look that happy. Your task today is to think silly thoughts and giggle more. You will add years to your life and people will wonder what you're seeing over their shoulder.

YourMondayMotivator - Are you inspired or motivated?

How do you know if you are inspired or motivated? They seem to mean the same thing and yet there is a subtle difference that makes inspiration millions of times more powerful than motivation.

Motivation is driven by the need to do something. There is a hook to make you do it. That might be bills to be paid, deadlines or goals.

Inspiration is more powerful because it is driven by your desire to do something. You breathe life into something.

A simple example is you are motivated to brush your teeth each day because you are inspired to have good teeth.

To me inspiration is the picture in your mind, motivation is the brushstrokes that finish the picture.

What inspires me will not necessarily inspire you and if you need a jump start there are pictures, quotes, music and video's all over the internet. Or if you want to be inspired by like minded people come and join in on the MondayMotivator Facebook page.

Today's minimotivator #2-2010: Inspiration

From a billboard, "Success is 10% inspiration, 90% last-minute changes."

The pressure of the 'last minute' seems to bring out the best in most people. Those finishing touches and flourishes, that can really make something, happen in those moments. Giving yourself deadlines can be very inspirational. Try it out on everything and see what happens.

Todays minimotivator #175-2009

Zig Ziglar said, "People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily."

People ask me why I write the minimotivator daily and wonder how I can get it done. I believe the above quote sums it up perfectly and that you need a little inspiration everyday. So even if you don't read it everyday I am motivating myself by writing it everyday. It's my afternoon caffeine fix.

If you think it's your afternoon caffeine fix too let me know and even better pass it on to someone else so they can have one too.

The really, really BIG questions.

Gary Zukav said, "Please… tell me who you are and what you want. And if you think those are simple questions, keep in mind that most people live their entire lives without arriving at an answer.

Who am I? See now that's a tough one. Am I a mass of tissue powered by a mind created from electro-chemical impulses or just Glenn Edley from Titirangi, Auckland.

What do I want? Where do I begin. Global domination, good guitar player, racing cars, bikes, skate park, kids, money, fame. I could go anywhere with this question or could I just want to be remembered for making a difference to few peoples lives everyday.

Will I ever have an answer that really satisfies me? I hope not because as it says at the bottom of each page of the Ponsonby News; the world belongs to the dissatisfied.

What are you dissatisfied with that could drive you to growing and making a difference?

Todays minimotivator #149-2009

Betsy Cañas Garmon said, "I've decided that the stuff falling through the cracks is confetti and I'm having a party!"

I feel sure that most of us could have a party with all the confetti we have from those little things that fall through the cracks.

Betsy's way of looking at it though is a very different angle and might stop you from sweating over the small stuff today. Get the big things done, the rest is just confetti.

P.S. My blog made the Inspiration page on Alltop.com. That's very exciting. Check it out - http://inspiration.alltop.com

What has inspired you this morning?

Every morning I head into work and there are two ways I go depending on the time. One way is ok, not much to see most of the time, but the other way always offers me an amazing view of Auckland.

This morning was no exception. As I turned a corner I was greeted by the most spectacular sight of a sun drenched Auckland City. Fog through Avondale that looked like a calm lake, the outline of the hypodermic Sky Tower against a band of gray cloud and blue sky, even the powerlines couldn't ruin it this morning.

I slowed down to take it in as I realised sometimes I just drive and don't pay much attention to it. A photo could not have captured the moment as perfectly as my memory has and it really set me up for the day.

That is what inspired me this morning, what has inspired you? Read this article [

Todays BOOST to survive the day

Who inspires you?
Take a minute to think about it ...
Some answers might be your parents, kids, teachers, Bill Gates, Mother Teresa, God, the list could go on.

Have you ever thanked the person or people who inspire you ? If you are able to why not take the time to thank them today. Let them know they inspire you and why.

A small effort on your part will be awe inspiring for both of you.

Todays BOOST to survive the day

What inspires you ? Take a minute to think about it ...
Now write down what has popped into your head. Is it travel? Is it a beer on your deck this weekend? Is it the look the special person in your life reserves just for you? Is it a car or job? Keep writing ...

Look at the list ... that is where your goals are. Because if you set goals around things that inspire you, they can't help but happen.
Have a great weekend.

P.S. Read this from the beginning and do the exercise. It's life changing.

Your Monday Motivator - Steve Jobs

I have been looking forward to sending this weeks Monday Motivator since I read an article about Steve Jobs in the April 15th Canvas (comes with the Weekend Herald). Steve is the guy who gave us the Apple computer and the iPod.

He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and told to get his affairs in order 'you only have 3 to six months to live'. Having thought he was going to die Steve had an epiphany which he shared with Stanford University students. What he told them is succinct and a lesson to live by.

'Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.' - Steve Jobs

Now I have some questions for you.

Why do we wait until we think we are going to die before we live how we are meant to, as ourselves?

Why is it we dont live like this now?

Live like Steve's lesson says NOW and don't wait. You might not be able to be cured like Steve was.

Have a terrific week, and tomorrow, please take a minute to think of the heroes who died so we may live how we want to.
